The short answer is yes. Safety is the main focus of every class at Haven Jiu-Jitsu Academy. We advise that you begin with our beginner classes and attend open mats and work your way upward towards advanced classes after that. Also, you can begin by scheduling a private session to better understand the basic techniques which make it easier to train.
YES! Jiu-jitsu is a great sport for children starting at age 4. For youngsters, we begin by teaching focus, discipline, and respect. Training for jiu-jitsu helps kids channel their energy and release it in a highly productive way. In general, martial arts for children increase cognitive ability, self-confidence, help manage aggression, improves overall core strength of the child, and teaches them self-defense against bullying.
We offer all students a free one-week trial at Haven Jiu-Jitsu Academy! Every Saturday, we host a free open mat session every Saturday between 10:00am to 11:00am for children, and 11:00am to 1:00pm for adults. This is a great opportunity to learn more about how knowledge and application is demonstrated in our classes. You don't need to own a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gi for your first class. Generally athletic clothes are acceptable including t-shirts, board shorts, sweatpants, and compression wear. Bring your own water bottle and be prepared to have fun and learn!
