Haven Jiu-Jitsu Academy is a martial arts gym based in Cypress, Texas that teaches Jiu-Jitsu as its primary martial art. While Jiu-Jitsu may appear to be a martial art that focuses on self, every Dojo comes with a team standing behind each person. We show up to push each other and become better – every single day. Our mission at Haven is to provide a safe place for our members to learn the art of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and other martial arts. At Haven, we aim to assist our members in becoming healthier and stronger, both physically and mentally. Fulfilling your health and discipline goals is a worthy pursuit, and it is our intention to get you where you want to be. To create confidence in yourself, to handle hectic, pressurized, dire situations; we prepare by consistently practicing under the constraints of these situations.
Nonso was awarded his Black Belt in Jiu-Jitsu in 2019 under the teaching of professor Eddie Avelar(who is a 3rd degree blackbelt under coral belt professor Carlos Machado). Nonso is a IBJJF champion, has competed in over 12 International competitions, and won Gold over 6 times. Judo Brown Belt, and collected dozens of top finishes at national events.
Nonso is also a Brown Belt in Judo, and is passionate about teaching martial arts and helping his students through their interpersonal journey.
Nonso plays an instrumental role in the development of his students, between personalized strength, conditioning, and nutrition plans to daily bootcamps at 5am -- he ensures safety is always the top priority.
Nonso also coaches numerous middle school, high school and college athletes whom have gone on to play at advanced competitive levels.
